 Frequently Asked Questions

  • RCS belives addiction affects the whole family. We provide services to support individual family members when they start the assessment process. When one individual in a family system is suffering from a substance use disorder, the affects of this can be felt by every member of the family. Family members take on certain roles in order to adjust to the behaviours around them. Family members often lower their standards of acceptable behaviour, find themselves trying to rescue or control their loved one's drinking or using. In this process, unknowingly, family members can become more focused on others, and lose connection to self.

  • Treatment options vary and can include ongoing therapy, as well as outpatient or inpatient treatment. RCS only makes relevant treatment recommendations once a thorough assessment has been completed.

  • Yes, we have relationships with multiple treatment facilities across North America and the Caribbean, and can make recommendations based on your specific needs, preferences and budget.

  • Outpatient care: Less intensive treatment in a clinic or office setting, with no overnight stay required. Treatment occurs on a scheduled basis, allowing clients to maintain their daily routines.

Inpatient care: More intensive treatment in a residential facility, hospital, or outdoor setting, with round-the-clock care and supervision. Clients stay for a defined period, often temporarily putting other responsibilities on hold.

RCS is an outpatient practice. You can access our services in person and/or virtually.

  • RCS is a private, fee for service practice. Many professionals on our multidisciplinary team have designations that are covered by insurance and benefits plans. All invoices and receipts are issued with the counsellor or therapists designations as well as their supervisors. This allows for easy submission to claim coverage.

  • The assessment process includes several strategies to gain insight into an individual's substance use. These strategies include bio-psycho-social interviewing as well as incorporating a data evidence based tool. This tool and the interview process will help inform RCS professionals with issues around underlying mental health concerns. RCS professionals are adept in working with concurrent disorders. As well as collaborating with other medical or therapeutic professionals in your circle of care. We take into account the entire system when we do an assessment and work from all angles when people have experienced depression, anxiety and/or trauma.

  • RCS professionals use the trauma informed approach to counselling. Informing your counsellor or therapist of an event or experience you are not ready to discuss will be respected and honored. We never ask people to directly discuss traumatic events, but rather work with the responses to trauma. When a client feels ready to disclose more or start to unpack trauma, your counsellor or therapist will be there to support you.Item description
